Interview with Nicholas Attanasio – Caribbean Pools and Spas
Q. What year did your business start?
A. We started building swimming pools in 1989. We are celebrating our 30th year.
Q. Where are you located?
A. We are located at 1223 Fort Hunter Road. Schenectady, NY 12303
Q. What is your phone number and website address?
A. 518-356-4364. www.CaribbeanPoolsNY.com
Q. What hours are you open?
A. Monday – Friday: 9-7
Q. How and why did you get into the business?
A. My father (Dean) started the business in 1989. He has been installing pools since he was a kid. My grandfather was also in the swimming pool industry. There’s something special being able to transform someone’s backyard into an area where families can entertain and enjoy each other.
Q. How many generations have been running the business?
A. Currently two generations are running the business.
Q. Do you have many regular customers? Is there anything specific that they are always coming in for?
A. Yes we do. Mostly it is chemicals for their pool or hot tub. We offer free water testing. We want to make maintaining a pool as easy as possible. We are here to help in any way that we can. Our store also offers a wide range of pool floats and games. Also we are stocked with pool parts and maintenance equipment.
Q. Is there anything new and popular in your business?
A. One of the newest accessories for swimming pools is the use of salt. Salt generators are now used to treat and sanitize pool water safely and effectively. This cuts down on the cost of chemicals greatly, since chlorine is no longer needed to treat your pool. The maintenance of treating and caring for your pool is incredibly reduced.
Q. Do you sponsor any local teams, if so which ones?
A. Yes we sponsor a team for Guilderland Little League and Rotterdam Reign girls’ softball.
Q. What do you love most about the business?
A. Being able to bring families closer together. Having a pool in your backyard makes everyone want to come to your house. Parents, kids, grandparents, friends, everyone can enjoy their time together. It’s a great feeling when our customers tell us that they loved having a pool and using it. That’s why we do this.
Q. What do you think is your biggest challenge with the business?
A. The biggest challenge is time. Summers and the nice weather does not last long enough here in the northeast. We want to be able to take care of our customers has quickly as possible so that they are able to enjoy their swimming pool.
Q. What do you want the community to know about you?
A. This is our 30th year in business. We are a family owned and operated company. My father and I are on the jobs and my sister, Erica runs the pool store.
