How & why did you get into the business?
After high school, I decided to look for an alternative to college. Being very active by nature, I found myself to be much more suited for a trade school. Cosmetology was my first choice. I enjoy meeting new people every day and listening to their stories. I don’t know too many people who can say they look forward to going to work every day. I have always enjoyed what I do. Now I am even more blessed to love where I do it.
Are you known for anything special?
We are a full-service salon, specializing in hair, nails, makeup & wigs. After 27 years as a licensed cosmetologist, losing friends and relatives to cancer, my mom (Audrey Iacobucci, retired RN) and I decided to team up and open a wig center.
Our goal is to offer a cozy, private setting where clients in need of hair will receive individual and personalized attention by an RN. If you are in need we invite you and your trusted stylist to make an appointment to come in and visit us.
At Hair Event, we offer totally free fittings and affordable rates. For each wig sold, we donate $10 to cancer research.
What do you love most about the business?
Meeting people who are in need of hair replacement and sending them home with hair, a smile and our most positive wishes. It is very rewarding to us.
What do you want the community to know about you?
We are both dedicated to helping people and giving back with a positive impact to the community. Charities we are involved with include: Pet Connection, Guilderhaven, Wounded Warrior’s, Guiding Eyes for the Blind and our biggest, Susan G. Komen and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital through Margaret Evon-Laier at the Guilderland Elks Club in memory of her sister Robin Evon.
About us: our wish as a team:
Our wish was to start a small business and make a big difference. After several months of searching for a commercial building with many dead ends and disappointments, we accidently stumbled upon our old house and knew it was meant to be.
We two women being inseparable; work, play, vacation and write novels together. After writing three mini mystery novels we found our happy place, also known as Hair Event at 1857 Western Avenue. It is now up and running and fabulous.
