Accessing Albany County Records

Working on your family’s history?  Keys to your past may be unlocked at the Albany County Hall of Records and County Clerk’s Office. On Fri. Jan. 24 at 2:00 p.m., Deputy Albany County Clerk Craig A. Carlson and Albany County Hall of Records Archivist Rebecca Shevy shed light on the documents and historic treasures held at these institutions that might aid your research.  Please register online, by phone or in person.


The Grand Playdate

Calling all grandparent caregivers!  Bring you grandbaby (ages birth-three years) for a special playdate, Fri. Jan. 24 at 10:30 a.m.  We’ll have coffee for the grown-ups and snacks and fun toys for the little ones, plus a special gift for each child.  Please register online, by phone or in person. 


The Public Enemy

Our Prohibition-Era Bootleggers and Rum Runners Film Series continues on Fri. Jan. 24 at 2:00 p.m. with a screening of The Public Enemy, starring James Cagney and Jean Harlow.  This classic depicts two ruffians who rise up from poverty to become petty thieves, bootleggers, and finally, cold-blooded killers.


Teen Volunteering

Art D’Echo

 Art D’Echo will perform jazz standards and originals at Guilderland Public Library on Sun. Jan. 26 at 2 p.m.

Warm jazz on a cold winter’s day?  Yes, please!  Art D’Echo, a classic-style trio performing jazz standards and originals, will perform Sun. Jan. 26 at 2:00 p.m. for the latest installment of our Sunday Concert Series. 


Wicked Albany

What was Albany really like during the Roaring 20s?  University at Albany Professor Frankie Bailey will paint a fascinating picture of stark contrasts with her presentation “Wicked Albany:  Lawlessness & Liquor in the Prohibition Era”, Wed. Jan. 29 at 7:00 p.m.  She’ll describe how Prohibition produced the exact opposite result of its intent, merely forcing alcohol-related commerce underground, and lawlessness and violence to the forefront.

Wondering how to pare down unnecessary belongings and by extension, simplify your life?  This presentation is for you!  On Thurs. Jan. 30 at 6:30 p.m., Local Professional Organizer Jes Marcy will examine underlying reasons why we consume so much, and cover practical streamlining strategies.  Please register online, by phone or in person. 


Take Your Child to the Library Day

Mark Sat. Feb. 1 on your calendar for an exceptionally fun-filled day here as we demonstrate that “The Library is Super!”  We’ll have fun activities planned throughout the day, plus a special visit from Spider-Man from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.  All ages welcome!
